The Macallan distillery was founded in 1824 at Craigellachie, Banffshire in the Highlands of Scotland and from the early days the malt produced became renowned amongst whisky blenders for providing the finish or ‘top dressing’ to their blend and it is found in several of the top blends to this day.

In the late 1970’s it was decided to market The Macallan as a single malt in its own right, and this has proven to be an excellent decision as it is now recognised by most authorities to be one of the finest single malt whiskies ever produced. Around 75% of the distillery’s output is now bottled individually in this way.
