Ardbeg Distillery
The Ardbeg distillery became operational in 1815 on the Isle of Islay although records of early distilling on the site by smugglers do exist. The distillery was closed in 1981 and remained so until 1997 when the new owners Glenmorangie restarted production. As with the other Islay malts Ardbeg has its own personality.
Each of the Ardbeg vintages, although having their own distinctive finishes, exhibit a rich sweetness to go with the peaty overtones. These are whiskies to be savoured.
